Ensuring critical heating and hot water supply during grid failure
A joint offering from TRYBA Solar & XTRA-E® (Green Shark Group)
Imagine: It's 4 a.m. in January. The power grid fails. The heating circulation pumps fall silent. Within 90 minutes, the temperature in residents' rooms drops below 18 °C. What follows is not a hypothetical scenario – it is the real consequence of the Berlin blackout in 2023, which forced several nursing homes to evacuate immediately.
This audit study shows you concretely:
According to DIN SPEC 1946-7:2022-05, section 5.3.1:
“In facilities with people in need of care, a minimum temperature of 20 °C must be maintained in living areas for at least 24 hours even in the event of failure of the main power supply.”
Without emergency power for heating circulation pumps and hot water preparation, a critical condition occurs within a very short time:
According to BGB § 823 Paragraph 1:
“Whoever intentionally or negligently unlawfully injures the life, body, health [...] of another is obliged to compensate the other for the resulting damage.”
According to Occupational Health and Safety Act § 3 Paragraph 1:
“The employer is obliged to take the necessary occupational safety measures, taking into account the hazards to employees and third parties.”
The consequence: Failure to provide for heat supply during a power outage is considered by courts as a grossly negligent breach of duty – with personally liable management and nursing home leadership. The Berlin blackout has shown: Insurance provides no protection if preventive measures are demonstrably omitted.
According to BSI-KritisV § 2 Paragraph 1 No. 7:
“KRITIS facilities in the health sector are hospitals with more than 30,000 inpatient treatment cases per calendar year.”
Nevertheless, stricter obligations apply:
Since the entry into force of the Act to Strengthen Information Technology Security (IT-SiG 2.0) in May 2024:
According to § 8b BSIG n.F.:
“Operators of special facilities must take appropriate measures to maintain functionality in the event of disruptions to the energy supply and document these in a resilience plan.”
Nursing homes are among the “special facilities” according to § 2 No. 15 BSIG – regardless of KRITIS status. The documentation obligation for resilience measures is therefore legally binding.
Consumers: Heating circulation pumps, hot water preparation, emergency lighting, medical devices
Normative requirement: DIN VDE 0100-710: maximum transfer time 15 seconds
Supply technology: Diesel generator with automatic start
Consumers: General lighting, food refrigeration, sanitary areas
Normative requirement: DIN VDE 0100-560: minimum autonomy time 120 minutes
Supply technology: Battery storage with optional PV charging
According to DIN VDE 0100-551:2017-02, section 551.7.2: “The safety power supply must start automatically within the time prescribed for the respective application. For heating systems in care facilities, a maximum transfer time of 15 seconds applies.”
Note: The sizing is based on hospital standards according to the recommendation of the German Medical Association (2022) – 24 hours minimum reserve, expandable to 72 hours for large facilities.
According to TRBS 3146/TRGS 746 (2016):
“Stationary diesel storage tanks > 1,000 liters must be fire-protected (F90), secured against overfilling, and equipped with leak detection. Minimum distance to living areas: 5 meters.”
Our solution: Integrated tank containers with double-walled construction, automatic leak monitoring, and remote alarming – approvable according to Federal Immission Control Act §13.

Our expertise:
Within 5 working days, you will receive a site-specific load assessment with a clear separation of critical and non-critical consumers – free of charge and without obligation.
We create the legally required resilience plan for you according to § 8b BSIG – ready for submission to supervisory authorities and insurers.
From approval to commissioning: a maximum of 12 weeks. Your liability gap closes – before the next blackout comes.
The technology is available. The standards are clear. The legal obligation is undisputed. What remains is a single decision:
Do you want to have to explain to residents, relatives, and in court why you forewent a proven emergency power solution in the event of a crisis?
With TRYBA Solar & XTRA-E®, you close this gap – individually, standards-compliant, and with the security of a partner who has been securing critical infrastructure for over a decade.
The next hour decides not about technology. It decides about responsibility.
Invest safely in the energy transition – from as little as €1,000 with attractive returns and maximum risk protection.
